A New Perspective

Finding a balance between the intrinsic and used based perspectives in determining value can lead to a more peaceful and sustainable world

What is an intrinsic perspective?

To have intrinsic value means to have value in of itself; it has value because it exists. It's an ethical and philosophical property. For example, nature has intrinsic value because of its absolute beauty.

What is a use perspective?

Often contrasted with intrinsic value, use value is when the value is objectified based on how much use it provides to us. For example,  nature has use value because it provides basic natural resources that we need in order to construct infrastructure.

  • What about the Earth is valuable to you?

  • Why?

  • Was it from a use perspective or intrinsic?
